The collembolans commonly called "springtails" are small, entognathous, wingless hexapods possessing a spring-like forked jumping organ, the furcula underneath the fourth abdominal segment. They are minute in size (less than 6 mm in length); antennae primarily with 4 segments. The presence of antennae and absence of cerci distinguish them from the other entognathous hexapods. The collembolans have very diverse distribution occurring in all Zoo-geographical regions of the world inhabiting a wide range of ecological niche and climate.- Four New Species of Springtails (Hexapoda: Collembola) from Jharkhand, India

The first record of collembola was known from Ghatsila area of Jharkhand by the published work of Mandal&Hazra (2004). Thereafter, the present project was undertaken for extensive study of Collembola fauna of Jharkhand as per Annual Plan of Research Work of Apterygota section for the year 2012-2015. Mandal (2014a, b, c, 2015), Mandal&Hazra (2013) and Mandal&Suman (2014) published Collembola from different sanctuaries of Jharkhand.- New Records of Blattodea (Insecta) from Jharkhand, India

The present communication is based on a survey conducted by the author in June-July, 2014, from Barkhela, Kolhan Forest Range, Chaibasa district of Jharkhand state. The Jharkhand state is very rich in biodiversity and is the part of the Chhotanagpur plateau, province of the peninsula biogeographic zone. It is situated between 23.3500° N Latitude and 85.3300° E Longitude. The recorded forest area is 2.36 million hectares, which constitutes 29.61% of the geographical area of the state. Reserve forests constitute 18.59%, protected forests 81.27% and unclassed forest a mere 0.14%, there are three types of forest viz., Tropical moist deciduous, Tropical dry deciduous and Subtropical broad leaved hill forests.- A New Record of Acrididae (Orthoptera) from Jharkhand, India

Sajnekhali Wild life Sanctuary which is under Sundarban delta situated a little south of Tropic of Cancer between the latitudes 21°31´ and 22°31´ North and 88°10´ and 89°51´ East longitudes in the District of 24 Parganas South, West Bengal. Sunderbans is an estuarine ecosystem with mangroves as the main fl ora. Mangroves are the plants which can survive, grow and propagate in loose muddy alluvial soil and saline water. These plants have highly specialized adaptations in the form of Stilt Root (for anchoring in loose soil), Pneaumatophores or Respiratory ischolar_mains and Vivipary (germination while attached to mother tree).- Dicranocentrus cercifer (IMMS, 1912) Mari Mutt, 1979 (Collembola : Entomobryidae) New Record from Jharkhand, India

The genus Heteromuricus described by Imms (1912) with Heteromuricus cercifer as its type species. Imms erected this new genus due to presence of a single median circus to the fi fth abdominal segment which separates this genus from other known genera of Collembola. The other characters of this genus include: 1) Antennae 5-6 segmented; 2) 8+8 eyes; 3) body and furcula covered by apically rounded scales. Mari Mutt (1979) synonymized Heteromuricus cercifer Imms, 1912 as Dicranocentrus cercifer (Imms) owing to the similar characters of the genus Dicranocentrus.- Collembola (Hexapoda) Fauna from Simbalwara Wild Life Sanctuary, Himachal Pradesh, India

While going through the collection present in the Apterygota section of National Zoological Collection of Zoological Survey of India, we came across the following collections of collembolan specimens which has not been identified and published so far. From those collections, we have identified 14 species of Collembolaunder 9 genera distributed over 3 families. There are about 8000 described species of Collembola worldwide (Fransjanssens, 2012).- Three new species of Collembola from India
